Afterthoughts 3-14-17

HAPPY PI DAY!!!! Hope you ate a huge piece of your favorite pie while listening to Memory Bank this week! I can’t believe this show was static free….so relieved! Anywho…..I covered a lot of ground this week, talking about Pink Floyd, L7, and music videos. First…Pink Floyd!

I mentioned The Wall coming to life in the form of an opera. Its debut in Montreal over the weekend was met with at least two standing ovations. Because of its success in Canada, Another Brick In The Wall: L’Opera will be coming to the U.S. in July 2018. The opening show will be at the Cincinnati Opera House (yay!). The link below has pictures from the opening night in Montreal .

I also talked about L7 on Memory Bank this week. L7 is a band from LA that was associated, whether they liked it or not, with the grunge scene of the late 1980s and 1990s.

They definitely could keep up with the boys in the scene, often “out grunging” them with their raw music and the ability to make any sailor blush with their words. They were loved by both men and women. Kim Thayil of Soundgarden often wore their “Smell The Magic” album shirt during the early 90s. tumblr_ojbvdrXvm61ta6heoo1_1280.jpgThey are one of the most influential bands of the 1990s, and at times controversial (The lead singer threw her used tampon into the crowd at the 1992 Redding Festival because they got rowdy and started throwing mud on stage). Despite that, they were a band I always looked up to. They just seemed like cool chicks, like they didn’t give a shit about what people thought about them. They didn’t need to look a certain way or act a certain way to get attention or respect….and I think that’s pretty badass.

Lastly, look out for a possible upcoming theme for a Memory Bank show! Music videos were my life growing up, so I’m thinking about doing a show based off of my favorite music videos from the 80s and 90s. If I can make an entire show out of it, then it will be done! I will post the date for that show on Instagram.
