Wow! It is truly incredible how much the mind forgets after being away for a short time. It had been close to three weeks since I had done my show, and it felt like a lifetime. To say the summer has been a complete whirlwind is an understatement. So much has happened within the last two months that is incredible, but also extremely overwhelming.
I wanted to write about something that has been hanging over my head for a little bit. I feel that my playlist is getting a little old and that I’m playing the same songs over and over, just in a different order. I also realized that there were so many bands I haven’t even played yet on my show…bands like Sisters of Mercy, Mudhoney, Television, and so many others. THIS WILL CHANGE!! I’m currently in the process of analyzing my Memory Bank Library and deciding what I need to play more of on my show, and what I need to play less.
More than anything, I just want to say thanks for checking out my blog, and thank you soooooooooo much for listening to my show. It’s my form of relaxation, my creative outlet, and my chance to act like college kid again.
Wow. I don’t even know where to start with my afterthoughts this week. To say that this month has been a blur is an understatement. Not only has this month been full of new beginnings for myself personally, but it’s also been a month full of excitement, learning, and heartache.
Not for one second during Soundgarden’s concert on May 17th in Detroit did I think, as I sat in the audience, that this would be the last time I would see Chris Cornell alive. He was singing his heart out, jumping around on stage, and fist bumping fans in the front row. He was talking about how great it was to perform in Detroit, and how the next city had a lot to live up to. I remember leaving the concert full of life and excited to see them again on their next tour. I was extremely excited that I had gotten one of the four autographed posters at the concert, and was looking forward to getting it framed so I could display it proudly in my home. Waking up to the news of his passing hurt so much. I didn’t believe it at first, but the more I found articles online confirming it, the less I could deny it. I simply couldn’t believe that he would take his own life. There’s still a part of me that will never believe it.
The poster is currently in the process of getting framed, but as soon as I have it back, I will take a picture of it and post it in this blog.
Soundgarden is a huge part of my life. They helped to define who I am. No matter what was going on if my life, their music and words were always there.
I wanted to pay tribute to Cornell any way I could. My show this week served as not only a tribute to Cornell, but also as an outlet for fans, or for those who didn’t really know Chris Cornell and Soundgarden, but were interested to learn more.
Thank you, Chris, for the loudest love.
Hello, everybody! This month has been craaaaaaaaazy busy! Between the weather getting funky, and being sick for the entire month, life has been a huge blur lately, but it’s been a pretty fun ride. It’s been so busy, I completely forgot an Afterthoughts for last week! I wanted to post pictures from Record Store Day, but I was only able to capture one before I put everything away. This pic just contains the things that were able to fit in that Record Store Day bag. I filled THREE BAGS worth of records. I definitely have an addiction.

As always, thank you so much for listening and checking out this blog. I can’t begin to describe how relaxing and therapeutic doing all of this is. I’m so excited to go to concerts this summer and continuing to be your DJ, Tuesdays from 6-8 on WBGUFM.COM and 88.1 FM.
Have a great week!
Helloooooooooooo!!! I hope you’re having a fantastic week! I’m STILL dealing with this weird cold/flu/sinus infection/exorcism….but I’m on the mend, so that’s nice. I feel like April has been crazy month for everyone. I’ve got tons of stuff planned in the upcoming months, but one thing that will definitely NOT suffer is this show. I love being on the air, being able to connect with you every week! It’s probably the most relaxing part of my week, to be honest. I hope it adds a little relaxation to your week, as well.
I’m so excited for Record Store Day tomorrow! I can’t believe it’s here already. I remember last years so well, it was a total blast. I’m staying local this year. I usually like to go to a different city every year and see the kinds of deals I can get, but this year I’m trying to save a little bit of money, so I’ll use the trip money to buy more records (logical, right?!?) I’ll post pics of my purchases next week.
I mentioned on my show a few weeks ago about maybe having a themed show about my favorite 80s and 90s music videos. After gathering them all up, I don’t know how possible it’ll be. Even “edited” songs are still hard to put on air, in some cases. College radio especially is a little stricter than other radio stations. I’ll still work on it and see what I come up with. Stay tuned!
Talk to ya next week!
What’s good, everybody?!? Spring is approaching fast, and so are the illnesses. I’ve been really sick for almost a week, and my voice definitely took a beating on my show Tuesday. I probably shouldn’t have done my show, but I simply can’t stay away from the studio.
Because I’ve been so sick, I don’t really have anything to talk about this week. I have zero energy, dizziness has been my companion, and I’m almost positive my fever has been in the low 100s since Sunday. Maybe I’m dying. Who knows……but any who……
I’m working opening day tomorrow at Comerica Park, rooting for the Tigers from 3AM to 2PM. If you’re in the area, look for me on my Instagram page Thayilgarden. Meet up with me and say hi! I should be at the Filmore all day. Even in my sickness, I am representing the Tigers.
Have a great day, everyone!
Helloooooooo everybody! This week has been so incredibly busy, I can’t believe I survived. I hope your week has been treating you well. It definitely kicked me in the ass, but at least the bruises are healing nicely!
I talked about Wrestlemania on my show this week. I’m a huge WWE fan, and Wrestlemania is by far the biggest night of the year in the wrestling world. Even if you’re not a wrestling fan, you’re familiar with Wrestlemania. I’m not super excited this year, however. I don’t think the matches are anything spectacular…but I’ll still watch, so why am I even complaining?!? The match I am looking forward to the most is the John Cena/Nikki Bella vs. The Miz/Maryse match. Mark my words…JOHN CENA WILL PROPOSE TO NIKKI BELLA EITHER AT WRESTLEMANIA OR AT SMACKDOWN THE FOLLOWING TUESDAY!! If I’m wrong, then the writers definitely got me, but I just feel like they are hinting at it sooooooo hard, it’s almost nauseating. No matter what, Wrestlemania will be a fun event, whether I’m shocked, making fun of it, or absolutely amazed.
I also talked about the reboot of Mystery Science Theater 3000, or MST3K, on my show this week. MST3K is one of my favorite shows of all-time. I completely fell in love with it as a kid, and it still captures my heart. It’s hilarious and extremely innovative. I don’t think it would have been a show in today’s market. A two-hour show that relies on the humor of horrible movies?!? No way. The reboot is taking place on Netflix, where all shows get reboots nowadays. I just saw the trailer, and I’ll be completely honest…I wasn’t obsessed with it. But, that’s okay, because I’ll still tune in to see if maybe I was just hoping it would be EXACTLY like the first run of episodes with Joel. You can judge for yourself here
MST3K Reboot Trailer
Thank you so much for tuning in this week! With the sun staying out a little longer now, the studio stays pretty bright throughout the whole show, so it definitely feels different…but in a good way. I don’t really have a bunch to talk about this week, but I did want to leave the link to Record Store Day. There you will find all the releases that are coming out this year, as well as which stores are participating. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE support this great day, and as always, SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESS!!!
Record Store Day
I’m off to Boston in a few hours. Wish me luck…I’m about to eat my weight in seafood…mostly in shrimp, clam chowder, and bacon wrapped scallops!
